Arkansas Vs. Louisiana-Monroe Final Score: ULM Shocks Arkansas 34-31 In OT

No. 8 Arkansas was the heavy favorite at home against Louisiana Monroe, but fell in overtime, 34-31, thanks to some gutsy play-calling and decision-making down the stretch by the Warhawks.

Let's recap the scoring. Kolton Browning hit Centarius Donald to open the scoring for ULM, but the Razorbacks would answer back when Tyler Wilson hit Julian Horton to level it at seven. The second quarter would see the Razorbacks pull away. Wilson would throw for another, finding Cobi Hamilton for a 39-yard score. Knile Davis would then put Arkansas up 21-7 going into the half with a three yard run for the touchdown.

The second half would start well for Arkansas, as they pushed the lead to 28-7 when Brandon Allen hit Mekale McKay. ULM would answer with a pair of scores to set up an exciting finish. ULM would then send it to overtime as Browning hit Brent Leonard with under a minute remaining.

Here’s the big play in GIF form:

The Razorbacks would get the ball first in overtime, but ULM would hold them to a field goal. ULM would gamble in their possession, going for it on fourth and one as opposed to kicking the tying field goal. It would pay off, as Browning would not only convert the fourth down, but he’d wind up in the end zone to cap the upset.

Next week’s SEC West showdown against Bama has just lost almost all of its luster, John L. Smith’s campaign as Hogs coach has just seen its goals radically diminished, and ULM has established itself as a team to beat in the Sun Belt.

Box Score Hero: Kolton Browning of ULM lit up the box score today, completing 46 of 68 for 412 yards. He’d throw three touchdowns with one interception. He’d also add 76 yards on the ground, including the game winning run.

Rankings Ramifications: The Razorbacks came into the week ranked No. 8, but they’ll be dropping in the ranking following the upset loss.

But Did They Cover? The Razorbacks were favored by 21 and they lost, so they did not cover the spread.

Next Week’s Schedule: The No. 8 Razorbacks have a tough test ahead, as No. 1 Alabama will be coming to town on September 15th. Things don’t get any easier for Lousiana-Monroe as they head to Auburn to take on the Tigers.
