Greg Jennings injury: Packers WR could miss 6 weeks

Packers receiver Greg Jennings could be sidelined six more weeks after choosing to have sports hernia surgery.

Unable to suit up since Week 4, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings could be forced to miss an additional six weeks of action after electing to schedule a sports hernia surgery, according to Bill Huber of Packer Report.

After struggling to make any improvements in his rehab over the last month, Jennings sought out the second opinion of Dr. William Meyers, who determined Jennings would need sports hernia surgery. Scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 30 in Philadelphia, Jennings' surgery will be a quick 25-minute procedure.

Though he could have opted to continue rounds of pain-killer injections in order to get back on the field faster, Jennings has clearly not been the same type of player in 2012 with the injury limiting his explosiveness. The veteran receiver’s conservative six-week timetable still gives him a viable chance to return for the Packers’ final three games against Chicago, Tennessee and Minnesota, however, which would be a huge late-season boost for a Green Bay team facing an uphill battle in the NFC North.
