Greg Jennings injury: Packers WR now expected to miss 3 weeks

Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Greg Jennings will have surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle on Tuesday, and he is expected to miss three weeks.

Green Bay Packers star wide receiver Greg Jennings will undergo surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle on Tuesday, and doctors expect Jennings will miss three weeks of action, according to a report from ESPN. The two-time Pro Bowl receiver was injured during the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 9, and he has only appeared in three games for the Packers in 2012. Initial reports pegged the recovery time at closer to six weeks, so this news is slightly better than what could have been expected.

Injuries have limited Jennings to just 12 catches for 78 yards and one touchdown on the season. The former second-round pick from the 2006 NFL Draft entered 2012 looking to raise his stock heading into free agency, but his year hasn’t gone according to plan. The Packers’ passing attack has taken a hit as well; they are only ranked No. 10 in the NFL despite their premium collection of talent on offense.

Here is what Jennings told ESPN about the decision to undergo surgery:

“Honestly, I’m over being bummed about it. That took place three, four weeks ago. It is what it is. I need to take care of it to 100 percent, and that’s the process I’m taking.”

The Packers take on the Jaguars in Week 8 (1 p.m. ET, CBS).
