It’s tough to say whether any running back prospects will be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, but there’s certainly a possibility that guys like North Carolina’s Giovani Bernard or Alabama’s Eddie Lacy get selected towards the bottom of it.

Eddie Lacy’s size lives up to his bruising reputation, as the Alabama running back measured in as the second-heaviest running back. With their official measurements out of the way, he and his fellow backs will have to show their running ability.

Size isn’t the most important measurable for running backs at the combine -- their speed will obviously be the thing scouts are most keenly watching -- but it does have some meaning. For guys like Oregon’s Kenjon Barner and Rutgers’ Jawan Jamison, their size is a question mark that could scare off some teams when issues like ball security arise. And for some, like Lacy and Le’Veon Bell, being a big bruiser is their greatest attribute.
Lacy measured in at 5’11 and 231 pounds, just one pound short of being the heaviest running back -- that honor goes to SMU’s Zach Line -- wall Bell was the tallest at 6’1 and measured in at 230 pounds. Jamison was just 5’7 with the smallest hands in the draft at 8.38 inches, although his weight of 203 pounds isn’t awful. It was obvious that Barner’s listed height of 5’11 in college wasn’t accurate, as he measured in at 5’9 and 196 pounds.
