2013 NFL Combine results: Barkevious Mingo enjoys strong performance

Barkevious Mingo was a standout in the drills for defensive linemen and linebackers on Monday at the Scouting Combine.

Defensive linemen and linebackers took to their on-field drills on Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine, and one player in particular has really stood out: defensive end Barkevious Mingo out of LSU.

Mingo has been considered a top 10 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by most prognosticators around the Internet. On Monday, he may have solidified that standing with strong numbers in the drills.

In the 40-yard dash, Mingo posted a time of 4.58 seconds, which is incredibly fast. It's one of the most important drills at the combine, with players rising and falling multiple draft spots due to it. Mingo's time is right in line with many of the top guys, like Dion Jordan of Oregon (4.60) and Corey Lemonier out of Auburn (4.60).

Mingo also posted strong numbers in the vertical jump, getting up to 37.0 inches. Damontre Moore out of Texas A&M made it to 35.5 inches, in comparison. Mingo posted 128.0 inches in the broach jump, which leads defensive linemen and linebackers for the time being.

It was likely that Mingo was going to be a top 10 pick before this performance, and this can only help his case.

Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation released his latest mock draft on Monday, prior to the workouts, and he already had Mingo going at No. 2 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fairburn thinks that Mingo provides pass rushing talent that the Jaguars desperately need, even with Jason Babin at the LEO position.
