2013 NFL Combine results: Desmond Trufant posts unofficial 4.31 40-yard dash

Desmond Trufant may have helped his draft status in a big way with a blistering 40-yard dash time Tuesday at the 2013 NFL Combine.

Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant ran an unofficial 4.31-second 40-yard dash Tuesday at the 2013 NFL Combine. If the time holds, Trufant will tie Alabama's Dee Milliner as the fastest defensive back, and the second-fastest overall athlete at the event behind Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

Trufant may have helped his draft stock in a big way with the time. He is ranked as the No. 83 overall athlete on SB Nation's Top 100 big board, and the No. 7 cornerback behind the likes of Milliner, Mississippi State's Johnathan Banks, Rutgers' Logan Ryan and Florida State's Xavier Rhodes.

Trufant has a rather impressive pedigree as a defensive back. His brother Marcus was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. His other brother, Isaiah, went undrafted out of Eastern Washington during the 2006 Draft, but worked his way up from the Arena League ranks and is now a member of the New York Jets.

Trufant is considered a true cover corner by experts. His 6’0, 190-pound frame is good for the position, though he will need to prove he is strong enough to press receivers at the line of scrimmage.
