Talk before, during and after West Virginia's pro day centered on Geno Smith, and for good reason. The quarterback put on a very impressive display, completing 60-of-64 passes, two of which were reportedly dropped by wide receiver Stedman Bailey. Smith, Bailey and Tavon Austin are unanimously considered the Mountaineers' top prospects. After all three shined at the NFL Combine in February, however, the best of the rest that WVU has to offer had a chance to stand out Thursday.
West Virginia Pro Day results: Geno Smith not the only one to impress
All eyes were on Geno Smith at West Virginia Pro Day on Thursday, but he wasn’t the only one to show off in front of NFL scouts. Wide receiver J.D. Woods was among the Mountaineers’ biggest standouts.

J.D. Woods was West Virginia's No. 3 receiver on the season, but within the air raid offense, that still translated to a respectable 61 receptions for 637 yards and four touchdowns last season. He was able to get the attention of scouts Thursday with his quickness, posting the fastest times of the day in the three-cone drill (6.9 seconds) and the 60-yard shuttle (11.2 seconds). A time of 4.58 seconds in the 40-yard dash may have left something to be desired, but otherwise Woods has to be happy with his day.
Tied for the fastest man of the day was cornerback Cecil Level, who clocked in at 4.53 seconds in the 40, just ahead of his teammate in the defensive backfield, Pat Miller, who came in at 4.54 seconds. Senior wide receiver Ryan Nehlen, who had all of seven receptions last season, may have had the best day of testing of anyone on the field, however. Nehlen also hit 4.53 seconds in the 40, and reportedly posted a 39-inch vertical.
Linebacker Terence Garvin was also hoping to do enough Thursday to earn draft consideration. He may have left his situation a bit murky with a 4.69 in the 40-yard dash and 18 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press. Right guard Jeff Braun had a better day, leading all players with 29 reps on the bench. He posted 5.26 seconds in the 40.
Tavon Austin may have benefited the most from the Mountaineers’ pro day workout. He stood on his incredible 40 time at the combine, but wowed observers going through the other drills.
