NFL Pro Day results: David Bass, Miguel Maysonet impress at small school

There weren’t many big name schools with pro days Friday -- Vandy would be the largest -- but there were some draft prospects on display, with running back Miguel Maysonet and defensive end David Bass improving on combine numbers.

The two top prospects at pro days Friday weren’t exactly top players -- a pair of late-round running backs -- but there were still a hearty amount of NFL execs interested in how Vanderbilt’s Zac Stacy and Stony Brook’s Miguel Maysonet performed. There were also two guys who were invited to the combine from Missouri Western and Tennessee State.

Let’s take a look at how everybody did in their respective pro days around the country Friday:

Stony Brook

Miguel Maysonet didn’t get a lot of press because he played for a small school, but the 5’9 running back has a chance of going in a later round - and NFL teams knew that:

He showed off Friday, running a 4.49 and a 4.45 in the 40 after being unable to run at the combine in Indianapolis due to a hamstring injury.

Vanderbilt

Vandy was supposed to have their pro day outside, but it’s apparently a bit colder in Nashville than expected, so they moved proceedings over to Tennessee State, combining pro days.

The highlight player was Stacy, who opted to sit on a 4.55 40-yard dash in the combine. That’s not great, but not too shabby for a physical running back whose speed was never his best attribute -- his 27 bench press reps at the combine was tied for third amongst tailbacks. He did do the broad jump, improving his 122 inches in Indianapolis to 126.5 Thursday.

Missouri Western

You might not have heard of defensive end David Bass, but there’s a pretty decent chance he gets selected in the sixth or seventh round in April. He closed his career at Missouri Western as the school’s all-time sacks leader, had a great week at the Shrine Game and had a strong day at Missouri Western’s pro day:

That's improvements on his 40 and bench -- 4.82 and 20 reps at the combine. Definitely did not hurt his stock.

Tennessee State

Left tackle Rogers Gaines isn’t much of a pro prospect, and he didn’t do much to show improvement Friday. He passed on the majority of the drills while working out for scouts, and none of his combine numbers -- 28 reps on the bench -- were that impressive. He’s not expected to be drafted.
