Wisconsin Pro Day results: Montee Ball breaks 4.5 in the 40

Montee Ball may have earned himself a much nicer paycheck Wednesday, breaking 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash during Wisconsin’s Pro Day. Who else improved their 2013 NFL Draft stock?

The Wisconsin Pro Day on Wednesday was a final chance for some of the top prospects of the Badgers, including running back Montee Ball and center Travis Frederick, to make a final impression on NFL scouts and talent evaluators. Neither were too impressive during their weeks at the 2013 NFL Combine, and each looked to improve upon poor showings in the bench press and 40-yard dash, particularly.

Ball may have earned himself a much nicer paycheck, after breaking 4.5 seconds on both of his 40-yard dash attempts. He went 4.49 on his first run and 4.46 seconds on his second, both of which were much faster than 4.66 he posted in Indianapolis. Combined with his 4.11 shuttle run, Ball did just about everything he could to answer the questions scouts had about his speed and quickness. Feel free to time him for yourself:

Frederick didn’t run the 40-yard dash, so his rather unimpressive 5.58 from Indianapolis will stand as is. Results from other drills like the bench press or the vertical jump have yet to be released and/or reported, so it’s unclear whether the Badgers’ top pro prospects improved in other aspects.

Other players that needed to have good days on Wednesday to catch the eyes of scouts and coaches that could look to toss a late-round selection their way were linebacker Mike Taylor and offensive tackle Rick Wagner. Both earned invites to the NFL Combine, but neither are expected to come off the draft board in the first 150 or so selections.
