Sheldon Richardson runs sub-4.9 in the 40 at Missouri Pro Day

Sheldon Richardson bested his NFL Combine time in the 40-yard dash by over two-tenths of a second at Missouri’s Pro Day on Thursday, according SB Nation’s Matthew Fairburn.

Sheldon Richardson ran very well in the 40-yard dash at Missouri's Pro Day on Thursday, according to SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn. A Missouri athletic official had Richardson timed at 4.81 and 4.86 seconds on his two runs. Those figures are a marked improvement over the 5.02 he ran at the 2013 NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

The 2013 NFL Draft is stocked with elite defensive line prospects, and Richardson is considered one of the best. Fairburn praised Richardson in November for having a high motor and impressive fluidity and athleticism. His 40-yard dash in Indianapolis had some experts briefly questioning his explosiveness, but his performance in Columbia on Thursday could go a long way toward quieting any doubters. Currently, he is No. 4 off the board in SB Nation’s latest mock draft.

Among other participants at Missouri's Pro Day, wide receiver T.J. Moe answered a lot of questions about his speed by running in the 4.5 range in the 40. Moe was never known for being fleet of foot during his college career, but he may have proven himself just quick enough to earn a shot as a possession receiver in the NFL. Fairburn had running back Kendial Lawrence as the fastest Tiger on the day, clocking within the 4.3 range.
