FIU Pro Day results: Jonathan Cyprien runs sub-4.6

Florida International safety Jonathan Cyprien is vying for a Day 1 selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. He may have helped his chances after running under 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash at FIU Pro Day on Thursday.

Florida International safety Jonathan Cyprien has slowly been pushing his way up NFL Draft boards. Despite playing at a relatively small school, he has been projected as a late first-rounder in several mock drafts, including the latest from SB Nation's Matthew Fairburn and Dan Kadar. At FIU Pro Day on Thursday, he worked out in front of scouts representing all 32 NFL teams, and did not disappoint.

In the all-important 40-yard dash, Cyprien clocked in at 4.56 seconds. While not an elite time, it may have been just fast enough to prove that Cyprien won’t be a liability because of his speed. He added 18 reps of 225 pounds in the bench press, which would place him third among all defensive backs if he had participated at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Indeed, his power has been regard as one of his biggest assets as a safety, along with his quickness and instincts.

Teammate Tourek Williams is also vying for a selection in the NFL Draft, though he is more likely to be selected on Day 3. Still, the 6'3, 260-pounder reportedly performed well in both linebacker and defensive line drills. He tested much better than he did at the NFL Combine in February, running an unofficial 4.65 in the 40 after going 4.92 in Indianapolis.

The Miami Dolphins were reportedly out in full force to watch both players run drills. Cyprien and Williams could be great fits given the Dolphins' needs. They certainly know South Florida well enough.
