2013 NFL mock draft: Eddie Lacy to St. Louis Rams

St. Louis needs a replacement for Steven Jackson, which is a weird thing to ponder.

For nearly a decade, Steven Jackson was the first player you thought of when the phrase "St. Louis Rams offense" was uttered. Now a member of the Atlanta Falcons after his release in St. Louis, Jeff Fisher and the Rams are looking for Jackson's replacement - and they might just find that player in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Team Player Position Height Weight Class
46. St. Louis Rams Eddie Lacy, Alabama RB 5'11" 231 JR

Ryan Van Bibber: "If the Rams picked Lacy in the first round of the draft, it would be a little disappointing. Getting Lacy in the second round feels like an absolute steal. Steven Jackson is gone, and the Rams lack a bona fide replacement for him, not that the franchise's all-time leading rusher and one of just five players to top 1,000 rushing yards in eight straight seasons is easy to replace.

"Lacy has the power angle covered and covered well, and he can do a better job powering through the short yardage runs and goal line situations than Jackson did over the last few years as age took its toll. The Crimson Tide product is more agile than he looks. His vision and quickness will serve him well in Jeff Fisher and Brian Schottenheimer's offense that has a preference for workhorse types.

"Second-year back Isaiah Pead can handle the outside work, the speed game, and give the Rams backfield a nice 1-2 punch with Lacy shouldering most of the load."

Here’s our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:

Lacy may not be Trent Richardson part two, but he’s also shouldn’t be another Mark Ingram either. Lacy has been the expected pick for St. Louis because he’s the best running back in the class this year and the Rams have a big need. The only question is just how good of a workhorse Lacy can be. He played in a split backfield his whole college career and didn’t have more than 20 carries in a single game last season. Considering Pead’s complete lack of experience (just 10 carries last year), it won’t be a shock if the Rams draft two running backs this year. Getting one as good as Lacy is a nice start.

Blogging the Boys will be making a second-round pick for the Dallas Cowboys as the third of our trio of picks today at 3PM ET.
