| Brett Kollman: "This pick is probably the most unrealistic selection in this entire mock simply because the Texans refuse to take a nose tackle high. With Shaun Cody finally gone and nothing left in the middle besides the disappointing Earl Mitchell, Williams is not only the best player available but also fills a gigantic need. If the Texans are going to change their scheme to fit around the very specific skill set of Whitney Mercilus, then the number one and two priorities that Houston absolutely has to fill in order to avoid a defensive train wreck are inside linebacker and nose tackle. The nose, shaded to the weak side of the offensive line, must be sturdy enough to draw double teams against the run, quick enough to penetrate his gap when pass rushing, and powerful enough to collapse the pocket and feed more sacks to his teammates. Brandon Williams can do all of those, and do them well. "Together with Mercilus, Brooks Reed, J.J. Watt and Antonio Smith, Williams would round out a front five with devastating potential. I like this pick so much I made it myself. It’s true that the Texans don’t take nose tackles high. It’s also true that Wade Phillips generally utilizes smaller nose tackles with good movement skills. Williams is a top-heavy run stuffer best suited to take on multiple blockers. He’s a little unnatural for a Phillips 3-4, but he’s such a better player than Mitchell.
