The process of grading a quarterback prospect can be tricky in the months before the NFL Draft, as the shorts-and-T-shirt workouts at the NFL Combine and Pro Days can make a player look much different. Without the pressures of a live pass rush or the coverage of defensive backs, big-armed passers can look like Pro Bowlers in the making; however, in the case of Zac Dysert, the game-tape is his biggest asset.

Dysert hasn’t stood out during the pre-Draft process, but he may be the case of a player who is more of a gamer.

According to Adam Caplan of PhiladelphiaEagles.com, the more talent evaluators watch tape of Dysert lead the Miami (OH) RedHawks, the better they feel about his abilities.
At 6’3, 231 pounds, Dysert has adequate size and the statistics to show that he was successful at the collegiate level. In his senior season with the RedHawks, Dysert completed 62.9 percent of his passes with 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, despite the fact that the team finished the 2012 season with a 4-8 overall record.
At the 2013 Senior Bowl practices, Dysert failed to stand out, but in the game he led all quarterbacks with 10 completions and 93 yards passing, including a three-yard touchdown pass to Kenjon Barner as he attempted to rally the North back in to contention.
The lackluster pre-Draft process has led to a lack of chatter surrounding Dysert; however, Matthew Fairburn of SB Nation placed him on the all-underrated team for the Draft class and labeled him as a potential steal:
Dysert is a tall quarterback with a strong arm. He struggled behind a bad offensive line as a senior with a brutal supporting cast but still displayed the ability to read defense and make plays while avoiding the rush. Dysert has experience in multiple offenses, though he seems most comfortable under center. Given his physical skills, Dysert has the upside to develop into a capable starting quarterback in the NFL.
Alfie Crow of SB Nation’s Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, is another fan of Dysert and said he would be comfortable taking the RedHawks passer even earlier in the Draft:
I would feel comfortable taking Dysert in the second round, especially if I didn’t need to start him right away. He has some mechanical issues that will need to be worked on, which causes his passes to sail at times, but with coaching that’s something that should be fixable. He’s also accustomed to playing under-manned, so an injection of legitimate receiving options might lean to him being even better on the field.
In the latest draft rankings from SB Nation’s Dan Kadar, Dysert is listed as the eighth best quarterback and the No. 110 player on the big board.
