2015 NFL mock draft: Nelson Agholor to Minnesota Vikings at No. 45

If the Vikings pass on the chance to pick DeVante Parker, how would Nelson Agholor look in their receiving corps?

With the No. 11 overall pick in our 2015 NFL mock draft, Christopher Gates of Daily Norseman made a surprising pick for the Minnesota Vikings, passing on Louisville wide receiver DeVante Parker (and thereby passing on the chance to reunite him with Teddy Bridgewater) in favor of Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes.

Having passed on that receiver, Gates is circling back to the position in the second round, and he’s targeting a slot receiver, specifically.

45. Vikings: Nelson Agholor, WR, USC

Gates: With our second selection, we turn our attention to the wide receiver position. While the team has players who can fill the spots on the outside (Mike Wallace, Charles Johnson), they need someone who can function primarily as a slot receiver, and that’s the sort of skill set that Agholor brings to the table. He shows the ability to get open against both zone and man coverage, and displays above-average hands. While he develops as a wide receiver, he could step immediately into the punt return role, one that he excelled at while with the Trojans. Agholor is a player who has gotten a lot of steam recently, and he would fill a definite need for the Vikings at this spot in the draft.

Dan Kadar, SBNation.com: Should the Vikings pass on a wide receiver in the first round, they can certainly rely on the depth of the class in the second round. Agholor is a good player, and the reason for taking him over some other receivers makes sense. Players like Devin Smith of Ohio State or Breshad Perriman might be the pick of many, but they’re not inside receivers. From a scheme standpoint, Agholor is a better pick.

  • 30. Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
  • 32. P.J. Williams, CB, Florida State
  • 33. Jalen Collins, CB, LSU
  • 39. Benardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State
