2015 NFL mock draft: Phillip Dorsett to Miami Dolphins at No. 47

In this 2015 NFL mock draft, the Miami Dolphins are highly focused on adding premier offensive talent with their early-round picks.

After snagging star running back Todd Gurley in the first round of our 2015 NFL mock draft, Kevin Nogle of The Phinsider is back to make the second-round pick for the Miami Dolphins -- and once again, he's chosen to add talent to the offensive side of the football.

47. Dolphins: Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami (FL)

Nogle: Leading up to this pick, Breshad Perriman was the top target as he continued to slide, but obviously that did not happen, as the 49ers beat Miami to the punch. That leaves a few options available here, with the Dolphins able to go multiple directions. Picking up a cornerback like Byron Jones or P.J. Williams could be the way to go, as could the selection of a linebacker like Benardrick McKinney or Stephone Anthony. Miami has to be considering an offensive lineman early in this year’s draft, but I do not know if anyone is jumping out at me here as must-have picks.

Which brings us to the decision point. I am looking at keeping one of two players in their college home stadium here. Either the University of Miami’s Phillip Dorsett or Clive Walford will get to continue to play in Sun Life Stadium with this selection. This is not an easy pick, either adding another shorter wideout or another tight end despite already having Jordan Cameron, Dion Sims and potentially Arthur Lynch penciled in as the top three on the depth chart. Both players could be special, and the Dolphins will clearly have a good idea of what they could be at the NFL level. I also do not believe the signing of Michael Crabtree, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, or another veteran free agent changes Miami’s desire to add a rookie wide receiver early in the draft.

This really is a tough call, but at the end of the day, I grab Dorsett just because I think the Dolphins will trust Sims to fill the role Walford could fill, and adding more speed as well as a player who can play inside or outside will be too much of a temptation. Not accounting for a veteran free agent Miami will likely sign at some point, the Dolphins now have a receiving corps of Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, Dorsett, and Rishard Matthews. It may be the youngest group in the league, but it clearly has some talent and some speed. It’s just a matter of getting everyone on the same page as quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Dan Kadar, SBNation.com: The run on wide receivers continues with our third in a row and the fifth of the second round. Dorsett is a great system fit. He could easily replace what Mike Wallace was doing, and potentially much more. Dorsett would be the speed guy, Landry is the dependable slot player, and Stills is something of a combination of the two. Dorsett can be used in a number of ways on offense, and gives Miami an incredible special teams player as well.
