AFC Championship 2013, Ravens vs. Patriots score update: New England strikes first, up 3-0

The New England Patriots strike first in the AFC Championship game, and they’re up 3-0.

The New England Patriots have drawn first blood in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, getting a Stephen Gostkowski 31-yard field goal to go up 3-0 with 6:21 left in the first quarter.

The Patriots started their second drive of the game — after punts by both teams — with 11:24 left and used 13 plays to drive 67 yards to set up Gostkowski at the 12-yard line. Tom Brady was 5-7 on the drive, hitting Brandon Lloyd three times.

The most Patriots play ever came on second down before the field goal, when Bill Belichick called an end-around for tight end Aaron Hernandez. Unsurprisingly the play only went for six yards, and the Pats were forced to kick a field goal as a result.

Brady is 6-9 for 64 yards in the game. Stevan Ridley has seven rushes for 19 yards and the Patriots have a head-start on the Ravens for a spot to play the 49ers in the Super Bowl.
