NFL trade deadline: Salaries likely to prevent Dwayne Bowe, Steven Jackson from moving, according to report

Because of impending free agency and large salaries, it is expected that Kansas City’s Dwayne Bowe and St. Louis’ Steven Jackson will not move before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

The NFL trade deadline is only a day away, but, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, it is expected that two big names, Rams running back Steven Jackson and Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, will not be on the move because of their contract situations.

Jackson’s current contract pays him $7 million and expires at the end of the season, making it unlikely that a prospective suitor would want to take on that money when he could be acquired in free agency at the end of the season without having to give anything back to St. Louis.

Jackson is currently in his ninth season with the St. Louis Rams, who drafted him out of Oregon State. So far in 2012, Jackson has carried 108 times for 403 yards and just one touchdown. If his current 3.7 yards per carry average held for the entire season, it would be the worst mark of his career.

Bowe, who has 37 catches for 472 yards and three touchdowns thus far in 2012, will also be on the free agent market at the end of the season. He is currently being payed $9.5 million by the Kansas City Chiefs under the franchise tag and in addition to taking on that salary, any team that traded for him would not be able to work on an extension until the end of the season. Bowe has spent all six seasons of his NFL career with Kansas City.

The NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
