One more reason to hate the NFL trade deadline

    Jim O’Connor-US PRESSWIRE

Another NFL trade deadline has come and gone. Hopefully, you’ve been able to catch your breath from the breakneck speed of rumors, news and analysis. It was easily the busiest NFL trade deadline in recent years.

Obviously it was not. In case you have difficulty penetrating the hastily conceived sarcasm of my words, it was yet another uneventful trade deadline in pro football outside of one last-minute move.

Bucs trade Aqib Talib to the Patriots

    Matt Stamey-US PRESSWIRE

The Patriots were known to be in the hunt for secondary help so that they picked up a cornerback is not a surprise. What is a surprise is that it’s Talib, who has been suspended four games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances, which he says was Adderall.

Talib was the Buccaneers first round pick in the 2008 NFL draft.

Could DeAngelo Williams be traded by Thursday?

    Mary Ann Chastain

PFT explains that trading Williams, who has already lost his spot on the depth chart, would remove over $17 million in future salaries and would clear up space for a new general manager to rebuild the team in 2013 and 2014. The Panthers aren’t in a hurry to move Williams, but would consider it if an attractive deal materializes.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Williams brushed off trade questions from the media Wednesday. When asked how he deals with trade talks, he said “by doing what I’m doing right now. Going to work.”

Salaries could keep Jackson, Bowe from moving

    Scott Kane-US PRESSWIRE

Jackson’s current contract pays him $7 million and expires at the end of the season, making it unlikely that a prospective suitor would want to take on that money when he could be acquired in free agency at the end of the season without having to give anything back to St. Louis.

Bowe, who has 37 catches for 472 yards and three touchdowns thus far in 2012, will also be on the free agent market at the end of the season. He is currently being payed $9.5 million by the Kansas City Chiefs under the franchise tag and in addition to taking on that salary, any team that traded for him would not be able to work on an extension until the end of the season. Bowe has spent all six seasons of his NFL career with Kansas City.
