NFL mock draft 2026: Los Angeles Chargers select Chase Bisontis, OG, TAMU

This may seem like a reach, but the way the board fell for the Chargers made this pick a necessity.

Welcome back to another year of the SB Nation Community Mock Draft!

As we do every draft season, all 32 NFL sites at SB Nation come together to fill out an entire first-round mock draft leading up to the actual event that takes place from April 23-25. One by one, our site managers will make their picks and provide their reasoning behind the selection. From there, I will provide further analysis on top of giving a final opinion on the pick!

Without further ado, let’s keep things rolling!

With the 22nd overall pick in the 2026 SB Nation Community Mock Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers and I (Bolts From The Blue’s Michael Peterson) select Chase Bisontis, offensive guard, Texas A&M!

SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: With the 22nd pick, the Los Angeles Chargers select...

Chase Bisontis, OG, Texas A&M

Bisontis has the look of an old-school guard but combines that with the ideal athleticism to be scheme-independent at the next level. The Chargers are moving from a gap scheme to a wide zone offense that needs athletic movers up front. After releasing Mekhi Becton and letting Zion Johnson walk, the Chargers need to find two new starters up front. Former Dolphins starter Cole Strange looks like he'll slot in to one of those spots but with one more left to fill, Bisontis fits the bill.

The way I see it, Bisontis has the temperament and mentality of a Jim Harbaugh offensive lineman in the body of a Mike McDaniel-esque blocker. Seems like a perfect fit to me, even if it's a minor stretch taking him at No. 22.

Additional analysis: If you go by most draft boards this year, you would probably think this is a bit of a reach on my end. I also feel that way, but with the way the board fell through the first 21 picks, I just couldn’t help but grab a guy I believe will have the biggest impact as a rookie. With no takers on a trade back, I couldn’t risk there being a run on offensive guards between 22 and 55. Bisontis, Keylan Rutledge, and Emmanuel Pregnon could all be gone by the time the Bolts are back on the clock and that would simply be too devastating of an outcome.
