Vikings QB Brett Favre entered Week 8 with an ankle injury that put him at questionable on the injury report. He was in a walking boot as late as Wednesday though I don’t think anyone truly doubted whether he would play or not. He said after the Vikings loss to the Patriots on Sunday that he was “shocked” he was able to move around as well as he did.
Brett Favre ‘Shocked’ Ankle Injury Didn’t Limit Him More In Vikings Loss To Patriots
“I was shocked that I was able to play and move around the way I was,” Favre said. “My prayers were answered. I wanted the chance to play and play at a high level to give us a chance to win. That was my main concern. I didn’t want to play just to play. I didn’t want to come in for one play to get a start. I wanted to come in and help the team win. It was touch-and- go before the game today.”
Favre completed 22-of-32 passes for 259 yards before coming out because of a lacerated chin. He says the ankle, nor the chin, is likely to keep him out next week. Head coach Brad Childress echoed similar sentiments after the game. Favre did admit that at one point after he was taken out of the game with blood streaming down his chin that he wondered, ‘What in the world am I doing?’
He answered his own question: “But there’s nothing like competing.”
