Shawne Merriman May Be Joining Randy Moss On NFL Waiver Wire

WR Randy Moss is expected to hit the waiver wire and he may not be the only one. Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that Chargers LB Shawne Merriman will be placed on waivers if he passes a physical this afternoon. Merriman had been placed on injured reserve earlier this season with a "minor injury designation" essentially meaning they'd release him once he's healthy.

Merriman and Moss would both hit the waiver wire meaning both could be claimed by a team. Or both players could also go unclaimed and become free agents. He’s currently signed to a one year, $3.269 million contract. If there’s any team that wanted him on a tryout basis then this is it.

SB Nation’s Bolts From The Blue takes a look at a few of the candidates for Merriman’s next stop.

It is unlikely he'll land with the Bills (even though they sport the worst defense in the league), but it's possible he'll end up in the NFC West, playing for the 49ers or Cardinals, or his home-town Redskins may lay a claim on him. If he does make it all the way down to the bottom of the waiver wire, it is possible, however unlikely, the Jets or Patriots will make a claim on him.
