It was expected but the San Diego Chargers made it official on Tuesday: LB Shawne Merriman was released. Merriman's San Diego career ended on Oct. 13 when he was placed on IR with a "minor injury designation" meaning he would be released when healthy.

On Tuesday he passed his physical and has been placed on the waiver wire.
The guessing game now begins on where he might land. The Dolphins are a team that's reportedly interested. It'll be a busy day for NFL teams with both Merriman and Moss on the waiver wire.
Though Merriman is a big name, he hasn’t been productive in the last three seasons. He’s played just 18 games since his 2007 13-sack season.
