San Diego had an earlier opportunity in the second quarter to take a lead over the Broncos, but kicker Nate Kaeding missed a 52-yard field goal. That means that once again former Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt has regained the status as the most accurate kicker in NFL history. Quite a distinction for a guy without a job in the league.
Broncos Vs. Chargers: Big Gains Key San Diego’s Second Score
The Chargers were able to bounce back well on their next offensive possession. Little pass rush is being shown by the Broncos, meaning Philip Rivers has had all day to pick apart the Denver secondary. Two passes to Patrick Crayton gained 64 yards. The latter of which went for 49 yards and gave the Chargers the ball inside the Denver 5.
From there, Mike Tolbert was able to crash into the end zone to give the Chargers their first lead of the game. Counting a two-point conversion he scored in San Diego’s win over the Texans, the touchdown marks the seventh straight game the running back has scored in some way.
