Vikings Owner Reportedly Considered Firing Brad Childress Over Randy Moss Release

On Friday it was reported that then-Vikings WR Randy Moss approached team owner Zygi Wilf last Sunday after the Vikings loss to the Patriots and said "in no uncertain terms" that Brad Childress was not a good coach and should be fired. A day later and Childress had announced to his team that Moss was being released.

There was a large gap of time between when the news of Moss’ release initially broke and the Vikings actually confirming the move. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder citing a team source, Wilf delayed Moss’ placement on waivers while he considered firing Childress.

The news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock considering it was already known that Wilf was unhappy with the move. While Childress does have control of the 53-man roster, it’s unusual that he made a move like that without consulting ownership or at least making Wilf aware of the move.

Childress, by many accounts, is in hot water in Minnesota. The Vikings disappointing start and the events that have transpired in the last week would indicate that Childress is most definitely on the hot seat. But you do have to wonder what Wilf will do when it was just last year that he gave Childress a contract extension.

If the Vikings continue losing then this is definitely a story that we’ll hear more about.
