The Jaguars had a chance to make a move in the AFC South and AFC wild card races on Sunday. Instead, at the coldest home game in franchise history, the Jaguars’ offense refused to heat up when it was necessary.
NFL Week 16 Scores And Results: Jaguars’ Loss To Redskins Leaves Playoff Hopes Dangling
After coming back from 10-0 and 17-10 deficits, David Garrard threw an interception in overtime that let the Redskins set up a 31-yard game-winning field goal by Graham Gano. Washington won, 20-17.
The Jaguars were surprisingly resilient without Maurice Jones-Drew, out with a knee injury. Garrard threw for 299 yards and added a rushing touchdown to tie up the game late.
But the Jaguars also allowed Rex Grossman to pilot the depleted Redskins offense to points, and failed to get anything going on the ground. Rashad Jennings rushed for just 32 yards on 15 carries.
With the loss, the Jaguars fall to 8-7 and will need a lot of help to make the playoffs. They need the Colts to lose today and in Week 17 to win the AFC South and get in.
The Redskins’ win moves the team to 6-9 on the year.
