49ers Reportedly Interview NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi For GM Job

Earlier this week ESPN's Bill Simmons suggested on his BS Report podcast that the San Francisco 49ers, who are in the midst of a GM search, should hire former NFL personnel man and current NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi. It sounds like the 49ers may have been listening.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lombardi did interview with the 49ers.

49ers president Jed York interviewed former NFL executive Michael Lombardi for two hours late Tuesday night about SF's vacant GM job.

Lombardi, in his role as an NFL analyst on NFL Network, has talked often about his work with former 49ers coach Bill Walsh when he was a scout in the organization from 1984-87. Lombardi has also worked for the Raiders and Broncos, among other teams.

The new GM of the 49ers will be picking the next head coach after Mike Singletary was dismissed last week. Jed York has said he will interview candidates this week and determine by the weekend whether to extend his search to people already on NFL teams.
