The Washington Redskins are missing a pair of defensive backs for Sunday's game against the New York Giants and their absence will likely be softened by the news that Giants WR Steve Smith doesn't seem likely to return from injury this week.
Steve Smith Injury Likely To Keep Him Out Vs. Redskins; Targets Week 14 Return
”There’s a chance,’’ Smith said. “I wouldn’t say a big chance but there’s a chance.’’
It doesn't seem like it's a very good chance. Initial reports earlier this week pegged him at missing two weeks but he tells reporters that he he's "shooting for" Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings saying it's a "goal of mine."
The Giants proved last week that they could survive without Smith, and their other leading receiver, Hakeem Nicks, as they beat the Jaguars, 24-20. Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan replaced those two and combined for 82 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Most likely, they’ll need to do that again this Sunday against the Redskins.
