The New England Patriots moved the ball near the New York Jets red zone with relative ease, but incomplete passes and a broken play helped the Jets stop Monday Night Football’s opening drive short.
Jets Vs. Patriots: New England Scores On First Drive
Patriots QB Tom Brady completed passes to WR Deion Branch and WR Wes Welker, and RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis and RB Danny Woodhead contributed a handful of decent gains. With the ball in scoring range, Brady dropped back in a wide circle as either his handoff or play action subject was nowhere to be found. Brady heaved the ball out of bounds, prompting the Jets to plea for an intentional grounding penalty that never came.
Kicker Shayne Graham hit the 41-yarder to give the Pats their first lead over the Jets since the third quarter of the week two matchup. Brady had 29 yards on the drive, and Jets safety Brodney Pool led with a pair of tackles.
