The New York Jets will travel to Foxboro to take on the New England Patriots this weekend and the Pats have a key advantage in the passing game with shorter routes. Pro Football Focus has graded Brady’s performances against the Jets this year -- one win and one loss -- and says he should be able to dink and dunk the Jets.
NFL Playoffs, Jets Vs. Patriots: Tom Brady Can Dink And Dunk Way To Victory
While the Jets have a strong secondary and can typically stop the deep passes, they have struggled with underneath routes, especially Antonio Cromartie. The Patriots offense is set up to make short quick passes, and when the Jets have gone man to man against the Patriots in the past the Patriots have tore them apart. In the two games this season, Tom Brady has been 28 for 33 for 335 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions when he throws under 10 yards. If the Jets don't find a different way to stop the Patriots' passing attack, then the Patriots will be able to dink and dunk all the way to victory.
The Patriots style are those high percentage plays and you can bet both Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan know this. One of the keys to the game will be how those two respond to an advantage like this. Ryan suggested the last game against the Pats, a 45-3 loss for New York, had a defensive game plan that was too complicated. We’ll see if the new game plan includes a way to slow down the Patriots receivers.
