The Bears are demonstrating some of the offensive balance that is key in the NFL playoffs against the Seahawks.
NFL Playoffs, Seahawks Vs. Bears: Passing Game Gets Chicago Close, Running Game Punches In Touchdown
Chicago got another big completion from Jay Cutler to Greg Olsen to get into the red zone — Olsen took a curl route for 33 yards after breaking a tackle — then got its second touchdown of the day with a commitment to the running game.
A shotgun snap to Earl Bennett gained nine yards, and could have gotten more if Cutler, lined up as a wideout, threw a better block for his Vanderbilt teammate. Cutler then atoned for a near-interception with a fourth down sneak to get a goal-to-go series from the Seattle 3, and Chester Taylor finished the drive with a one-yard run. Robbie Gould’s extra point made the score at Soldier Field 14-0 in the Bears’ favor.
So far, this divisional round playoff game has been all Chicago. The Bears are averaging more than eight yards per play, got a good Devin Hester punt return to set up their second touchdown drive, and have prevented the Seahawks from converting a third down.
