Entering the NFL playoffs, the buzz was that the Seattle Seahawks, winners of the NFC West at 7-9, didn’t belong. They quickly quieted those concerns with a shocking upset of the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. Seattle was facing a Chicago team that many viewed as a team with flaws. In other words, they were beatable.
Seahawks Vs. Bears: Seattle Looked Like They Didn’t Belong In The NFL Playoffs
The Bears showed very few, if any, flaws against the Seahawks on Sunday as they rolled to a 35-24 victory. SB Nation’s Field Gulls says the Seahawks didn’t look like they belonged in the playoffs.
The Seahawks fell behind early and couldn't mount a comeback until far too late. The Bears, by no means a great team, did what most mediocre teams were able to do to the Seahawks: win in runaway fashion. And this team, underdogs from the start, were out of it in the first half--were out of it in the first quarter. The Seahawks, 7-9, preseason favorites for a first overall pick, looked like a team that didn't belong.
It’s hard to say they didn’t belong after they beat the Saints but the Bears jumping out to a 21-0 lead early in the game revitalized some of the complaints about Seattle making it into the playoffs. The positive buzz surrounding the Seahawks following the Saints game and the story once again becomes that Seattle shouldn’t have been in there.
I’d argue that Seattle’s placement in the playoffs are why the NFL is so great. Right when we have it all figured out, they go out and beat the Saints. Sure, they lost the next week against the Bears but for one week the Seahawks were exactly what we love about the NFL.
