Hue Jackson To Raiders As Head Coach; Al Saunders Coming, Too?

The Oakland Raiders announced on Monday night the promotion of Hue Jackson from offensive coordinator to head coach. The move was widely expected to happen and it now completes the NFL’s head coach hiring cycle. Jackson is the final head coach to be hired this year.

Raiders owner Al Davis has named six head coaches since 2003 and often he has been the last NFL team to name a new head coach. Davis is scheduled to conduct a press conference Tuesday afternoon announcing the move but offered up a few words on Jackson’s new role in the Raiders press release issued on Monday night.

"The fire in Hue will set a flame that will burn for a long time in the hearts and minds of the Raider football team and the Raider Nation."

While all the NFL head coaches have been picked for 2011, there are still some coordinator issues to work through on the coaching staffs around the league. In Oakland, the Raiders may be honing in on Al Saunders, who currently works for Baltimore, as the next offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jackson and Saunders would provide a boost to the Raiders offense, specifically the passing game.
