Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil was told on Thursday that he will not remain with the team, according to a tweet by The Tennesseean’s Jeff Wyatt. You’d think coaching moves would be winding down, especially for a team like the Titans who’ve already announced they’re standing by Jeff Fisher as head coach, but apparently we’ve only just begun.
Chuck Cecil No Longer Tennessee Titans Defensive Coordinator, According To Report
Cecil, a former NFL defensive back with a reputation as a wild hitter, has been with the Titans organization since 2001. He worked his way up from a defensive assistant position before taking over the DC spot in 2009. His defense was not very good in 2009, tumbling from second in the league in scoring to 28th, but it did rise back up to the middle of the pack in 2010. The D’s yardage totals were not quite so kind, remaining in the bottom third of the league in both years.
The fiery coach will be best remembered for a number of incidents that reflected the same personality he played with, most notably his middle finger moment that a player called “awesome.” He was fined $40,000 for the salute.
