It sounds like the decision for Jeff Fisher and the Tennessee Titans to part ways isn’t coming because of just one incident or move. It’s a combination of things and one of those may be that Fisher reportedly tried to hire his son onto the coaching staff which goes against owner Bud Adams rules on nepotism.
Jeff Fisher Leaving Titans May Be Over Son Joining Coaching Staff
We’re not sure how this fits into the overall picture but it appears this had at least something to do with Fisher’s exit. SB Nation’s Music City Miracles reminds readers of the last case of nepotism in Tennessee.
We talked about it two years ago when Gregg Williams was in the running for the defensive coordinator position that was ultimately given to Chuck Cecil. All reports indicated that Fisher was ready to give the job to Williams, but Williams wouldn't take it unless he could have his son on the staff. Bud said no. Williams went to the Saints.
Williams will be a name that’s likely talked about as a replacement, along with offensive line coach Mike Munchak. Considering Fisher stayed there for 17 years, it has to be considered a good job to have.
Dating back to the decision on Vince Young, we knew Fisher and Adams didn’t always see eye to eye. It doesn’t sound like this issue with his son was the reason they’re parting ways but it may have been one of the many contributing factors for each side to decide to go on their way.
