Bill Musgrave Agrees To Join Vikings As Offensive Coordinator

The Atlanta Falcons lost to the Green Bay Packers last week and now this week they’re losing a member of their coaching staff. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports Bill Musgrave has agreed to join the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff as offensive coordinator.

The news comes as a surprise because NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reported on Wednesday that Musgrave was expected to take the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator job.

The San Francisco 49ers fired head coach Mike Singletary during the 2010 NFL season but it didn’t take long for him to find another job. Singletary tells a radio station that he’s joining Leslie Frazier’s staff with the Minnesota Vikings.

Frazier became head coach of the Vikings when Brad Childress was fired midseason. Singletary and Frazier’s relationship dates back to 1985 when both were teammates on the Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears team.

Frazier went .500 as the Vikings head coach, giving him the best record of any 2010 Vikings head coach. The Vikings still have a talented roster, but will need to settle on a quarterback, for starters.

He’ll take over as only the eighth head coach in the franchise’s 50-year history, and the second Vikings coach in the past decade to take over midseason and then continue on into the next season as head coach. Mike Tice, who preceded Brad Childress, relieved Dennis Green during the 2001 season.

Frazier took over as Minnesota’s head coach when the team fired Brad Childress after the team went 3-7 in its first ten games. In the six games since Frazier took over, the Vikings went 3-3, but were 1-3 in their final four games as they dealt with a rash of injuries, particularly at the quarterback position. Minnesota finished 6-10 on the season.
