Aaron Rodgers went into the Green Bay Packers game on Sunday Night Football with some pretty lofty standards to live up to against the Atlanta Falcons. Once again, though, the reigning Super Bowl MVP didn't disappoint as the Packers kept their undefeated season intact with a 25-14 victory on the road in Atlanta.
Aaron Rodgers Continues Stellar Play In Packers Defeat Of Falcons
Rodgers completed 26 of his 39 passes on Sunday night as the winning quarterback threw for 396 yards and two touchdowns. The most surprising part of those numbers isn’t that the Packers quarterback went the entire game without a throwing an interception, however, but the fact that Rodgers connected with 12 different teammates on the way to the victory.
Yes, twelve different teammates caught passes. James Jones (five receptions, 140 yards and a touchdown) and Greg Jennings (four receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown) caught the bulk of the passes, but Rodgers also found time to connect with back-up tight ends D.J. Williams and Tom Crabtree, third string rookie running back Alex Green and, of course, Donald Driver.
Heading into Sunday night’s game, Rodgers was already on pace to a solid season as he’d completed 103 of his 141 passing attempts for 1,325 yards and 12 touchdowns. Adding nearly 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns certainly doesn’t hurt those numbers, either, as his 14-to-2 touchdown to interception ratio is easily one of the most impressive in the NFL through the first five weeks of the season.
It remains to be seen if Rodgers can keep up his stellar play, but with games against the underwhelming secondaries of the St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings still on the schedule before the Packers bye week, there's a good chance that Rodgers could be on pace for record numbers through the first half of the season.
If it continues to leads to wins, that’s even better for the Lambeau faithful.
