49ers Sign Brett Swain, Invite Houshmandzadeh And Chambers For Tryout

The San Francisco 49ers lost wide receiver Josh Morgan late in the fourth quarter this weekend in their victory over Tampa Bay. Morgan was in the middle of his best game of the season with five catches for 75 yards and had established himself as the team's top wide receiver.

Without Morgan, the Niners need someone to fill the gap at receiver and decided to hold tryouts today in camp. Among those invited included T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Chambers as well as practice squad players Joe Hastings and John Matthews.

Out of everyone, the Niners ended up signing 26-year-old Brett Swain to a contract. The 6-1, 200 pound receiver played the last two seasons for the Packers, primarily on special teams He had six receptions for 72 yards last year for the Packers.

No word on whether or not the other receivers were picked up as well but we will update you if and when we hear.
