Josh Morgan’s Injury Lands Him On Injured Reserve For 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers last week lost Josh Morgan to what was initially reported as an fractured ankle but head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated it was a broken leg at his Monday press conference.

On Wednesday, the 49ers opted to place Morgan on injured reserve, ending his 2011 season.

Morgan has 220 yards receiving and one touchdown this year. He's a solid blocking receiver, which could affect Frank Gore and the 49ers running game (which is really the strength of their team).

The 49ers signed Brett Swain in place of Morgan and they’ll rely on Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker at tight end a little more, along with Ted Ginn out wide.

The team worked out a number of receivers this week, including free agents T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chris Chambers, instead opting to sign Swain.
