NFL Coaches Hot Seat: Adding Andy Reid To The List

Which NFL coach is on the hot seat? We count at least five, starting with Tony Sparano in Miami. We’ll also add a new name to the list -- Andy Reid.

We’re entering Week 6 in the NFL, which is still early in the season, but there are a handful of coaches who are definitely on the hot seat. The obvious one is Tony Sparano and the 0-4 Miami Dolphins but there’s also a surprising name -- Andy Reid. The locals are getting restless in Philly as the Eagles start 1-4.

Here’s a look at the coaches hot seat watch through five weeks of the season:

1. Tony Sparano, Miami Dolphins: No surprise having Sparano atop the list. He's widely regarded as the coach most in danger of losing his job this season. The last report on his job security stated that he was safe at least through the Jets game, which comes on Monday night. If the Dolphins lose that game, we'll be on full blown hot seat watch with Sparano. But, if they can pull off the upset, he'll delay the hot seat watch for at least a week.

2. Jim Caldwell, Indianapolis Colts: There's a feeling out there that Caldwell gets a pass this season because of the loss of Peyton Manning but out Colts blog, Stampede Blue, strongly disagrees arguing now is the time to clean house. The Colts schedule does them no favors with a handful of tough games coming up against the surprisingly 3-2 Bengals and then the Saints, Titans and Falcons.

3. Steve Spagnuolo, St. Louis Rams: Part of the problem here is that the Rams had expectations entering this season and so far they've dropped the ball in a big way starting 0-4. Spagnuolo is in his third year and it would be hard to justify keeping him around if they take a significant step back this year, as it appears they have. The schedule doesn't get any easier with games against the Packers, Cowboys and Saints. If the Rams start 0-7, which is very possible, Spagnuolo shouldn't get too comfortable in St. Louis.

4. Gary Kubiak, Houston Texans: This has less to do with how the Texans have played this year and more to do with the fact that they have yet to make the playoffs. The Texans should be competitive enough to avoid an in-season change but it's a situation that bears monitoring throughout the season. Injuries to Andre Johnson and Mario Williams aren't helping Kubiak's cause.

5. Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles: He's been in Philly forever, and had a lot of success, but the Eagles offseason additions -- Reid is in charge of personnel decisions -- were supposed to make them contenders. Instead, they're 1-4 and quickly en route to eliminating themselves from postseason discussion. The locals, both fans and media, are already wondering if it's time to make a change.
