Troy Polamalu Passes Concussion Test, Could Still Face Fine

Troy Polamalu passed a concussion test and expects to practice this week and play on Sunday for the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers should have the reigning defensive player of the year when they travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals. S Troy Polamalu suffered concussion-like symptoms last week but expects to play this weekend.

Polamalu left the Jaguars-Steelers game with about 10 minutes to play after slamming into Maurice Jones-Drew's legs on a tackle. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says Polamalu, who sat the rest of last week's game after that tackle, passed a concussion test and they expect him to practice and play.

“We anticipate him practicing (Wednesday) and moving on throughout the week like everyone else on our football team,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. “He met with our neurosurgeons, and they are very comfortable with where he is.”

Polamalu may not escape a fine, though. On the sidelines, he called his wife via a cell phone to let her know he was OK after the hit. Using a cell phone on the sidelines of a game is a fine and he could be subject to a fine, which Tomlin says he hopes doesn’t happen.
