Jeff Otah Injury: Panthers OT Out For The Season

Jeff Otah has been placed on injured reserve by the Carolina Panthers, making 2011 the third straight season he has had a season-ending injury.

The Carolina Panthers have placed offensive tackle Jeff Otah on injured reserve, according to the Charlotte Observer, meaning that the oft-injured Otah will be out for the remainder of the 2011 NFL season.

Otah was recovering from a left knee injury that has been surgically repaired, but also sustained a back injury that left him questionable for the Panthers’ last two games. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney told reporters that Otah will not require a third surgery, just rest and rehabilitation.

Otah has been beleaguered by injury since Carolina chose him with a first round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He missed four games in 2008 and tore his left meniscus in December 2009, missing the final three games of that season. Of the Panthers’ 25 games since that injury, Otah has appeared in just four, all in 2011.

Otah's position will likely be filled by some combination of Byron Bell, Reggie Wells, and Trevelle Wharton.
