Rashard Mendenhall, Ahmad Bradshaw Among NFL Week 6 Players Of The Week

A pair of running backs are among the NFL Players of the Week for week 6. Pittsburgh's Rashard Mendenhall and Ahmad Bradshaw of the New York Giants were the AFC and NFC Offensive Players of the Week. Both players were essential in winning efforts for their teams last week.

Mendenhall rushed for 146 yards and one touchdown in the Steelers' 17-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was the fourth-highest single game rushing total of his four-year career. This was Mendenhall's second Player of the Week award; he last won the award in week 4 of the 2009 season.

Many wondered whether or not the Giants' rushing attack would be enough with Bradshaw working solo; Brandon Jacobs was out with a knee injury. Bradshaw did just fine. He had 104 rushing yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns in a big win over the Bills.

It should surprise nobody that New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis earned the AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. All Revis did was intercept two passes, including one that he returned 100 yards for a touchdown, as the Jets throttled a hapless Dolphins team. Revis had three tackles and four passes defensed to go with his two interceptions.

Interceptions were the deciding factor for the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Eagles safety Kurt Coleman picked off Rex Grossman three times in Philadelphia's win last week, including the fourth interception that got Grossman pulled. It was the first time an Eagles player had three interceptions in a game since 1966. A second-year player from Ohio State, Coleman's three interceptions lead the NFC.

A pair of return men got the nod for the AFC and NFC Special Teams Player of the Week awards. Oakland’s Jacoby Ford had a 101-yard kickoff-return touchdown and totaled 138 return yards in Oakland’s win over Cleveland this week. Ford has won the weekly award three times now, and is the second player in NFL history with at least four kick-return touchdowns in the first 20 games of his career.

Chicago's Devin Hester earned his 11th Special Teams Player of the Week Award in week 6, the most ever by a special teams player. Hester returned a kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown against the Vikings this week. That was Hester's 16th kick-return touchdown, an NFL record he already owned.
