Coach fight! No, not Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz, which fell under the "tussle" category last weekend. Instead, it's Rex Ryan -- of course it's Rex Ryan -- and San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner engaging in a bit of a war of words. Ryan tends to push buttons, something he's been great at during his tenure at the helm of the New York Jets, and Turner didn't take too kindly to what was said this week.
Rex Ryan, Norv Turner And Mythical Championship Arguments
“Well, I think I would have had a couple rings,” Ryan told San Diego reporters today when asked about how things would have unfolded if he were hired by GM A.J. Smith. “I’m telling you, those teams were loaded. There’s no question about it. But things happen for a reason. Obviously, Norv Turner has done a great job there. And A.J. (Smith) and everybody. That’s a great franchise. He was probably the best guy for the job at that time.”
Ryan later added that his comments were meant to be a compliment. Whatever they were, Turner retorted with snark.
I’m sure by now you’ve heard comment from Jets coach. Wonder how his team feels about that comment. Norv’s response: “I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he’s guaranteed the last couple of years.”
Can’t wait for the post-game handshake! Kind of hoping this becomes a thing in the NFL. Replace the handshake with a boxing match using those goofy inflatable gloves. It’ll be way more entertaining, guys.
