NFL Scores Week 10, Giants Vs. 49ers: San Francisco Treats New York To Loss By The Bay, 27-20

San Francisco just keeps winning. With defense and special teams brilliance, the Niners defeated the Giants in Week 10.

The San Francisco 49ers faced their greatest test of the 2011 NFL season so far in the form of the New York Giants coming to town in Week 10, and faced one of the NFL's most frightening scenarios with Eli Manning rallying Big Blue late. But the Niners shut down Manning's fourth-quarter comeback in a dramatic 27-20 victory.

San Francisco stuck to its formula to win the game, with defense and special teams propping up an offense that didn't make many mistakes. Alex Smith threw for 242 yards and a touchdown, and Kendall Hunter had 40 yards on the ground and a score, but the 49ers' offense was not the main reason this team won this game.

Two Carlos Rogers interceptions of Manning helped the Niners immensely, and Ted Ginn Jr., Andy Lee, and David Akers all came through on special teams: Ginn averaged 27.5 yards per kick return, Lee averaged almost 55 yards per punt, and Akers hit all four of his field goals.

That gave San Francisco enough to force Manning to attempt a fourth-quarter comeback, and though he threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns, Manning's final pass was batted down by Justin Smith, killing the Giants' hopes of a miracle.

The Niners move to 8-1 with the victory, their seventh straight. New York falls to 6-3 with the loss.
