Matt Shaub Injury Update: Gary Kubiak Refutes Season-Ending Reports

Multiple reports, including those by ESPN's Adam Schefter and CBS Sports' Mike Freeman, have indicated that Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub will miss the rest of the 2011 season with a Lisfranc injury. But Texans head coach Gary Kubiak doesn't agree, telling Sportsradio 610 in Houston that it's the team's opinion that Schaub isn't done for the year.

Either way, Schaub will miss this weekend's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and his injury has been described as "significant." When revealing the injury to the media, Kubiak indicated that a decision about Schaub's long-term status would not immediately be made. From NFL.com:

“There’s a lot of things reported,” Kubiak said. “He’s going to be in a boot throughout this week, and then the evaluation process will continue.”

At his weekly news conference, Kubiak didn’t downplay the severity of the injury:

“He has a significant foot injury and he’s going to miss some time, but we’re going to do everything we can to get it evaluated correctly and see if we can get him back on the football field.”

Matt Leinart is expected to start for Schaub this week. Kubiak is putting faith in his back-up to get the job done for as long as Schaub cannot go.

“He’s played in big football games in this league, he’s played in big football games in college,” Kubiak said. “Matt’s been around it. The key is the whole team rallying around him, and playing well as a team. Matt doesn’t have to go win a game, the team has to go win a game. We’ll rally around him and get him ready to go.”
