The New Orleans Saints released TE Jeremy Shockey this week ending a three-year run with the team. Shockey was due over $4 million in 2011 so it’s not a total surprise he was released. Because of the expiring labor agreement between the NFL and NFLPA, Shockey is only free to sign with a team before March 4th. After that, he’ll have to wait for a new CBA agreement.
Free Agent TE Jeremy Shockey Has Interest In The Miami Dolphins
Apparently, he’s already drawing interest. Shockey said on Wednesday he had a physical with an unnamed team. On Thursday, his agent Drew Rosenhaus told the Joe Rose Show in Miami that Shockey would be “very interested” in playing for the Miami Dolphins.
Shockey went to the University of Miami and Rosenhaus represents quite a few Miami players so the match makes sense on that level. Saints head coach Sean Payton was a big Shockey fan, and he Payton previously worked with Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, so that’s another connection.
It’s unclear if the Dolphins have had contact with Shockey, or have any interest in him but Rosenhaus’ words could be interpreted as a heads up to Ireland that he’d like to play in Miami.
