Jeremy Shockey may be on his way to finding a new team.
Jeremy Shockey Passes A Physical With Miami Dolphins
The New Orleans Saints released Shockey this week ending a three-year run with the team. Shortly after his release, Shockey said he had a physical scheduled with an unnamed team. On Thursday morning, agent Drew Rosenhaus told a radio station Shockey would be “very interested” in playing for the Dolphins.
Now we know why he said that. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shockey took -- and passed -- a physical with the Dolphins on Thursday.
Will they sign him? We’re not sure yet but, if they were, that’s the first step in the process. Because of the expiring labor deal between the NFL and the players, Shockey would have to sign by March 3rd, the final day of the current CBA.
Shockey’s entering his 10th year in the league and coming off of a season in which he had career lows in catches (41) and yards (408). The question with him would be staying on the field and avoiding injuries. If he can do that, I think he can still be a productive player.
Saints head coach Sean Payton, who signed Shockey in New Orleans, previously worked with Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland. Shockey attended the University of Miami and won a national championship in 2001.
