Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico is expected to be released from jail in June which is about three months early from his two-year sentence. Burress, who was sentenced on weapons charges, will be 34 years old when he gets out but his agent says there are still teams interested in him.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has ruled that Burress would be reinstated and eligible to sign with a team upon completing his sentence. While the league and players are locked in negotiations that have cast a shadow of uncertainty over the sport’s next season, Frankel and Burress agent Drew Rosenhaus said several teams had expressed interest in the receiver.

“The future is very bright for Plaxico,” Rosenhaus said in an e-mail.

We’ll see how many teams are actually interested. The prospects of an NFL lockout could potentially change Burress’ plans. If there is a work stoppage late into the summer, teams may be hesitant to sign a 34-year old receiver who hasn’t played a down of football in two years.

Burress last played for the Giants and former Giant Michael Strahan says it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to re-sign him.
