Denver Broncos 2011 Schedule: NFC North, AFC East Make For A Brutal Schedule
It doesn’t get a whole lot tougher than the Denver Broncos have it in 2011. They play one of the hardest schedules in the NFL as they take on the NFC North and AFC East, in addition to their own division, which is no cakewalk. If he finally becomes the full-time starter, Tim Tebow, possibly the most polarizing player in the NFL, is going to have a rude introduction to his first full season as an NFL starter.

The good news for the Miami Dolphins is that they open the season with a nationally televised home game on Monday Night Football. The bad news, however, comes in the form of the Dolphins’ first opponent: The New England Patriots. it’s a chance to make an early statement, but is one of the tougher opening games a team could have. So much for working out the kinks early.
The Dolphins find themselves on national television three times, with a second Monday Night Football game set for Oct. 17 at New Meadowlands against the New York Jets. Miami also has a Thanksgiving Day date with the Dallas Cowboys on the road in Arlington.

After hosting the Minnesota Vikings to open the 2011 NFL season, the San Diego Chargers face an early test as they travel to Foxborough to take-on the New England Patriots in week two. It’s a chance for the Chargers to make an early statement and get the season started on the right foot as they get set to open the divisional schedule at home against the Kansas City Chiefs in week three.
The Chiefs and Chargers face-off twice in the first eight weeks, the second of which comes on Monday Night Football in week eight. The week after, on Nov. 6, the Chargers host the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers to cap a difficult start to the season. With plenty of tough matchups early, we should know where the Chargers stand and have a good picture of where their season is headed by week 10.

There’s no easing into the 2011 schedule for the New Orleans Saints as they open the season against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Sept. 8 on NBC. The game serves as the kickoff for the 2011 NFL season, lockout permitting, and pits the previous two Super Bowl winners against each other in front of what’s sure to be a rowdy Lambeau Field crowd. For the Saints, it’s fresh out of the frying pan and into the fire.
The Saints’ schedule is full of pitfalls, including an opening stretch that features two playoff teams -- the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears -- who made a deep run in 2010. Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts await in week seven, providing another tough matchup for Drew Brees and the Saints.

The Jacksonville Jaguars ease into the 2011 NFL schedule as they open the season at home against the Tennessee Titans in week one. From there, the difficulty ramps up quickly as the Jags travel to New York to face the Jets in week two. The early season schedule is alternates between easy and difficult as Jacksonville travels to Carolina for a week three date with the Panthers before hitting the meat of its schedule.
The tough stretch of the Jaguars schedule comes before their week nine bye. On Oct. 2, it begins as the Jags host the New Orleans Saints. The Cincinnati Bengals provide somewhat of a break the next week before a stretch that sees Jacksonville hit the road against the Steelers before hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 24. Two tough, physical matchups back-to-back will surely leave the Jags battered and bruised with a bye in sight.

As the owners of the NFL’s worst record in 2010, the Carolina Panthers received a break as the 2011 schedule is put together to benefit teams with terrible records. If one were to look at the first five weeks of the Panthers schedule, though, it would be hard to tell Carolina owns the top pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.
A week two matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, a week four matchup against the Chicago Bears and a week five matchup against the New Orleans Saints is a brutal stretch for the Panthers ad they try to right the ship. Compounding matters is the possibility Carolina will be breaking in a new quarterback as the Panthers are in line to take either Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton in the 2011 NFL Draft. Whoever they choose will get a warm welcome to the NFL.

It gets much easier, however, as the Steelers face four teams that failed to register winning records last season from Weeks 4-7 and then don’t meet a team that made last season’s playoffs over the final five weeks of the season.
The Steelers have five primetime games, three of which come after their Week 11 bye.

According to NFL.com, the Indianapolis Colts’ schedule is the fifth hardest in the league. On first glance, it doesn’t really appear all that crazy. The NFC South is a reasonably tough matchup and their own division is no picnic, but there certainly isn’t any murderers row here. Their schedule is just short on bad teams and heavy on average teams, giving the schedule a good average record and a high difficulty rating. The opening game of the season, against the Houston Texans, could be a huge one for both teams.
